The Passing of our Associate Jewel – Dr. Joyce Maria Davis Simons - Our dear Associate Jewel, Dr. Joyce Simons, passed away on August 22, 2021. She was a lifetime Associate of the Rockland Orange Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. As a mother member, she was a member of the Metropolitan Chapter and later became a lifetime Associate of the Rockland Orange Chapter. The Chapter performed the National JJOA Memorial Service for our Jewel Joyce on Friday, September 3, 2021.
Jewel Joyce was the first African American faculty member at Nyack College with an earned doctoral degree. In addition, she was the first African American academic dean and Dean Emeritus at Nyack College. She has a long and distinguished career as an educator and an advocate for underrepresented and underprepared college students.
